EXCLUSIVE: Animated function ChaO is will open Japan Cuts: Festival of New Japanese Movie on July 10 in New York.
Recent from its world premiere on the Annecy competition and forward of its Japanese theatrical launch in August, ChaO would be the Opening Night time movie for Japan Cuts.
ChaO is produced by Japanese animation outfit Studio 4ºC and offered in partnership with Gkids.
Studio 4ºC was based in 1986 and has produced titles like Thoughts Sport and Tekkonkinkreet, and likewise co-produced ThunderCats with Warner Bros. Animation.
Japan Cuts, North America’s largest competition of latest Japanese cinema, will mark its 18th version this 12 months and run from July 10 to twenty.
Directed by Yasuhiro Aoki, ChaO is a hand-drawn cyberpunk fairy story set in near-future Shanghai the place people coexist with mermen.
The movie follows Stephan, an everyday workplace employee at a shipbuilding firm, who’s all of the sudden proposed to by Chao – a princess from the mermaid kingdom. Quickly, Stephan finds himself residing along with Chao, and each strike up an unlikely romance.
